Course Objectives

Games precede culture, because even animals play. New Media's prolific artifact, the video game, reframes games as an essentially virtual experience, and forces us to look at classical questions in the new, pale light of the video screen: How do games engage individuals ? How do they engage networked collectives? What role do games play in the advancement of who's culture? How is the boundary between reality and game defined? Is the body moving when the mind is playing? How do game experiences translate to and inform real life?
