TRACY (CONT'D)

This is one of my favorite pieces...I don't know it's an expression of what the mind is capable of.

JANET

(distracted)

I like what this one is telling me...just makes me feel...gives me pleasure.

Looks at Tracy

JANET(CONT'D)

Smile...I should smile more...I guess when you have nothing to lose you also have everything to gain.

Tracy

Some kid told me the other day told me the reason he loved living outdoors was because houses only take away space...they limit you to a certian space.

JANET

I love open spaces...the beach...all that free flowing energy...Hey you wanna go?

TRACY

Right now?

JANET

Yeah...what...you got some meeting to go to?

TRACY

Always...

JaneT

(laughs)

You sure the deli kids can handle it without you for one night....come on.

TRACY

They definitely can...alright you convinced me.

ext. beach - evening

Tracy and Janet are sitting on the beach looking out into the ocean.

JANET

Don't you just love the way the water just goes and goes?

(Pause)

I remember when was little my dad used to always take me here and we'd play frisbee. My favorite thing was throwing it off this cliff and seeing how far it would go. Sometimes it would hit the water and then take a life of its own. Sometimes floating away other times coming back. Then I got a little older my dad bought one of those areobie disks....and they could fly. I thought 'this would just go for ever' so against my fathers advice I threw it out to sea. It did fly far but as soon as it hit that water it just sank like a rock - like it couldn't handle both. You ever have that experience?

TRACY

Actually I rarely went out when I was a kid. I was sheltered. Well maybe I sheltered myself. I think I was just afraid of people, well at least getting close to them. I was one of those kids at recess that would sit by the wall by myself and draw kids in weird positions. I used to catch kids doing the weirdest little things I'd draw that stuff and then tape it to their lockers. I used to love watching the expression of the kids looking at this stuff and being disturbed by what they saw. I think it was because they saw it was their reflection they were looking at although they probably weren't aware of that.

JANET

Wow...you're a pretty interesting guy...I never would have guessed you had a darker side. Hey I think I have a frisbee in my car you wanna throw it around?

TRACY

As long as I don't have to fetch it out of the water.

int. cafe - day

Marcellus is occupied on his laptop when Janet walks in from behind. We catch a glimpse of some government site Marcellus is looking over. Janet Grabs his throat. I gotta ya. Startled Marcellus shuts the laptop and looks up.

MARCELLUS

Baby, you scared me. I wasn't expecting you here until 9:15.

JANET

Yeah I took a short cut. This guy has been freaking me out.

MARCELLUS

What, not Mr. Happy Happy again.

JANET

No it's some other guy...yeah he's always happy.

MARCELLUS

I don't get what freaks you out so much about street people.

JANET

They're just weird. I don't know, maybe I think if I get too close to them they're gonna rub off on me or something.

      (pause)

 What were you reading?

MARCELLUS

Oh just some research for another psychology paper.

JANET

Really?... You already have another one due?

MARCELLUS

You know Berkeley? Nothing WE can't handle though? So how's my sunshine this morning.

JANET

(looking outside)

Uncanny...that's what this is...you know what...this is silly...

MARCELLUS

What? Hey are you alright?

JANET

It's the signs...they really bug me. Never mind, we've got work to do. So let me take a look at that purposal.
